Growing up in Bristol, United Kingdom I attended a secondary school with an emphasis on Product Design, something that sustained a particular approach to objects and meaning throughout my artistic education. My process incorporates the idea of tolerances, (in the sense of both; the allowable amount of a physical delineation and also between intra/inter- personal interpretations) and designation as way of proposing meaning-making. Everything I currently make, whether that be painting, sculpture, performance, installation... can be described as being ‘like a’. This naturally suggests a comparative mind-set, a way of bridging the world of perceiving and integrating art into the world. Taken from familiar forms and everyday objects, I make ‘vessels’ that have been emptied to be placed into the instance of an artistic context... the ‘event’, the ‘exhibition’. To be described as ‘like a’ is a position of almost, but not quite. The vessels become a starting point for a comparison of subtle variations between the capabilities of the artist, and the integrity of the referential systems the objects did, and the vessels now, contain. This not only becomes a conversation around the designation of the artwork, but also the role of the artist as a maker/thinker and the wider implications of the artistic solution. Language, drawing, thinking, concentration and humour are crucial. The production, discourse,  experience and exposition of Art must be an act of leading out.
